چکیده

Finite size effects in Euclidean CP models with periodic boundary conditions are investigated by means of the 1/N expansion and by Monte Carlo simulations. Analytic and numerical results for magnetic susceptibility and correlation length are compared and found to agree for small volumes. For large volumes a discrepancy is found and explained as an effect of the physical bound state extension. The leading order finite size effects on the Abelian string tension are computed and compared with simulations finding agreement. Finite size dependence of topological quantities is also discussed.

Deconfined Quantum Criticality, Scaling Violations, and Classical Loop Models

Numerical studies of the transition between Néel and valence bond solid phases in two-dimensional quantum antiferromagnets give strong evidence for the remarkable scenario of deconfined criticality, but display strong violations of finite-size scaling that are not yet understood. We show how to realize the universal physics of the Néel–valence-bond-solid (VBS) transition in a three-dimensional ...

Scaling and Fractal Concepts in Saturated Hydraulic Conductivity: Comparison of Some Models

Measurement of soil saturated hydraulic conductivity, Ks, is normally affected by flow patterns such as macro pore; however, most current techniques do  not differentiate flow types, causing major problems in describing water and chemical flows within the soil matrix. This study compares eight models for scaling Ks and predicted matrix and macro pore Ks, using a database composed of 50 datasets...

Finite-size-scaling functions for 3d O(4) and O(2) spin models and QCD

We calculate numerically universal finite-size-scaling functions for the three-dimensional O(4) and O(2) models. The approach of these functions to the infinite-volume scaling functions is studied in detail on the critical and pseudocritical lines. For this purpose we determine the pseudocritical line in two different ways. We find that the asymptotic form of the finite-size-scaling functions i...

Finite-size Scaling for Potts Models in Long Cylinders

Using a recently developed method to rigorously control the finite-size behaviour in long cylinders near first-order phase transitions, I calculate the finite-size scaling of the first q+1 eigenvalues of the transfer matrix of the q states Potts model in a d dimensional periodic box of volume L × . . . × L × t (assuming that d ≥ 2 and that q is sufficiently large). I find two simple eigenvalues...

On the Analyticity Properties of Scaling Functions in Models of Polymer Collapse

We consider the mathematical properties of the generating and partition functions in the two variable scaling region about the tricritical point in some models of polymer collapse. We concentrate on models that have a similar behaviour to that of interacting partially-directed self-avoiding walks (IPDSAW) in two dimensions. However, we do not restrict the discussion to that model. After describ...
